Christmas Stovetop or Crockpot Potpourri is such a fun gift to give to anyone in your life – friends, family, coworkers, teachers, daycare workers, coaches, tutors, therapists, etc. It’s a perfect substitute for a holiday treat since you never know what allergies are in the person’s home.
Ingredients in Christmas Stovetop Potpourri
- Fresh Cranberries
- Whole Oranges
- Cinnamon Sticks
- Whole Cloves
- Nutmeg: ground or whole – whole looks prettier to me.
- Star Anise
- Sprigs of fresh greens or rosemary. I like to use leftover clippings from my live Christmas tree.
- Water
- Other additions: vanilla, lemons, apples, pears, apple juice
I provided links to some of the products above but I purchased my cinnamon sticks, cloves, whole nutmeg and star anise at our local Asian market. I found larger bags of them there and they were cheaper.
How I Made My Christmas Stovetop Potpourri
I did my Christmas Potpourri in the crockpot and it had the best smell on the morning of day 2 so I would recommend starting it the day before you want the house to really smell good. If using stovetop, place lid on pot and turn off stove. Place back on stove and remove lid when ready to reheat. If using crockpot, just turn the crockpot back on low. See the exact instructions in the recipe below.
The scent will last for up to 4 days before the ingredients need to be replaced.
